Computer Too Slow

One of the biggest complaints that I hear is computer too slow.  This can be very frustrating, especially when you have a task to do or something to complete by a deadline.  Having a computer that is too slow may lead to missed deadlines but even worse frustration.

There are a few different reasons that a computer can become slow.  Overload of hard drive space, viruses, spyware, too little RAM, and having too many programs running at the same time can all decrease performance speed and make your computer run too slow.

One thing that can easily be done is closing running programs that are not being used.  When too many programs are running it can overload the random access memory of your computer and make it’s computer performance slow.  All that has to be done to fix this problem is to close the programs that are not being used.  Many times that alone will increase the speed of the computer.

If there are many files being used but not as frequently or files that take up a lot of drive space it might make sense to purchase a portable hard drive and store these files on the portable drive for use when needed.

Another easy thing to do is to rid your computer of files or programs that are no longer used.  By removing these unused files you are freeing up hard drive space that may speed your computer up.  When doing this it is important that you know what the files and program do so you are not removing the programs and files that are needed for your computer to run properly.

Viruses and spyware can ruin the speed of a computer and make your computer too slow.  Malware programs are running rampant in our society and are very easy to get.  These can be picked up by email, visiting websites, or downloaded piggybacked with other files.

If a low amount of RAM is making your computer running slow it may make sense to upgrade by installing a higher amount.  RAM is relatively easy to install yourself but if unsure there are many local businesses that can do a professional job.

The most important thing to do when dealing with a computer too slow is to figure out what the problem is and get that specific problem fixed.  An optimized computer will be a fast computer so make sure to keep your computer in good working order and up to date.
